Till recently, Bangalore’s urban forest patches were home to an elusive, nocturnal primate, the slender loris; today, however, this shy animal remains restricted to only a few remnant sites. Where have the lorises gone? We, a team of scientists and naturalists have just launched a new citizen science project to answer this vital question. We are looking for volunteers, whom we will train at the IISc campus to conduct surveys for the primate at night and to study its habitat during the day. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a headlamp, flashlights and a smart phone for the training sessions, which will be held on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, beginning December 11, 2014.
