Notorious Wildlife Trader Sansar Chand Convicted today by a Delhi Court

In a landmark judgment today, the Court of Addl. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Special Acts) held notorious Wildlife trader Sansar Chand guilty of illegal possession and trade of one Leopard skin. This case dates back to 17.7.95 when Sansar Chand was caught red handed in possession of one Leopard skin which he was carrying in a green coloured canvas bag and was coming from Pahari Dheeraj.

According to the case of the Prosecution upon a secret information a raiding party comprising of Police officers of Police Station Sadar Bazar, a raiding Party was constituted with Insp. H.S. Meena, ASI Dal Chand, ASI Surender Singh, HC Vedpal, Ct. Virender and Ct. Dhaniram as it’s members. At about 6.45 PM on the pointing out of the secret informer one man who was later known to be Sansar Chand carrying a green coloured canvas bag which on checking was found to contain one Leopard skin. The accused Sansar Chand was arrested and seizure was made by the Police there and then.

The seized Leopard skin was confirmed to be of Leopard by Wildlife Inspector V.B.Dasan who identified the same under the directions of the Court on 18.7.95. The Prosecution was led by Mr. Atiq Ahmed, Prosecutor, Delhi Govt. assisted by WTI lawyer Saurabh Sharma. The department of Chief Wildlife Warden of Delhi as well as the Delhi Police also played a crucial role in the case.  Order on sentencing will take place on 25.08.2010.
