How we won the Kudremukh Mining Battle – Praveen Bhargav, Wildlife First
Conservationist Praveen Bhargav narrates a riveting case of civilian activism aimed at saving the verdant forests of the Kudremukh belt in the Western Ghats from the horrors of unscientific mining. Quoting him, “Fight for a public cause everyday. You can succeed”, is the underlying message as he takes us through the journey of moving the Indian Government for the sake of the disappearing forests of India.
Praveen Bhargav co-founded Wildlife First, an advocacy organization, which he represented on National Board for Wildlife, chaired by the Prime Minister of India. He has also served on various Government expert committees. He was nominated for the Environmental Leaders Forum hosted by Columbia University, New York and invited to the International Visitor Leadership Program by the US State Department. He is the recipient of the Sanctuary Wildlife Service Award, the Esso Honour for Tiger Conservation and featured in the Times of India list of 25 future leaders.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
